Sars is a part of the joint PhD research school, Molecular and Computational Biology (MCB), in cooperation with UIB departments of Molecular Biology (MBI) and Informatics (II), and Unifob department Computational Biology Unit (CBU). The ambition of the Research School is to create an attractive and stimulating training environment for PhD students in molecular and computational biology, both to serve the needs for relevant training in the field, and also to stimulate cross-discipline development in the research of the partners.

An international PhD programme in collaboration with the University of Bergen and European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) in the frame of the UIB-EMBL Sars contract, is also under planning.

As of March 2005 the Centre has enrolled 29 Master and PhD students of which 16 have graduated. At any one time there are a number of visiting students helping conduct research.
