Evolution of Hox gene function in Tunicates
There is a vacancy for a 3 year postdoctoral fellow position at the Sars Centre in the research group headed by Dr. Daniel Chourrout. The position is funded on a TOPPFORSK grant from the Norwegian Research Council and is within the project Evolution of Hox gene function in Tunicates . The position is available from August 2017. The Sars Centre belongs to the University of Bergen, and is partner of the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL).
The research group studies the evolution of tunicates using as model organism the larvacean Oikopleura dioica. The project aims at elucidating the role of Hox genes during embryonic and larval development and their involvement in genetic developmental pathways. There are nine Hox genes in Oikopleura that were dispersed in nine locations of the genome (Seo et al, Nature 2004). Some of them may have acquired lineage specific functions The work will benefit from new technological developments for gene knock out and gene expression knock down.
Qualifications and personal qualities:
- The applicant must hold a Norwegian PhD or an equivalent degree in fields related to the project and must have submitted his/her doctoral thesis for assessment prior to the application deadline. It is a condition of employment that the PhD has been awarded.
- A good knowledge and experience of up-to-date molecular biology and morphological imaging techniques is required. Experience of genome-wide identification of transcription factor target genes would be an asset.
- Ability to work both independently and in close collaboration with others in a structured manne
- Proficiency in both written and oral English
